I've read the book in question. My grandmother has it. We are a very historical family.

It's always good to know from whence your lineage came. Why? Just for the purpose of understanding family tradition and to learn from the past.

These 3 books are wonderful. I found my Fergus(s)on's exact land location (which is now part of Pocahantas Park) using these books. The large 1888 map in the Gene. Soc. near by the Park was not helpfull. Thank you Mrs. Du Lac for your doing such a good job.

The site map is fine, but the site, overall, is still more complicated than it was before they did the redesign. If they want people to use the Site Map then they need to get rid of every other link on the front page and just put a big SITE MAP link in the middle of the page. That whole front page is just a BIG WALL OF TEXT as it is now (ie., a turn off). My biggest hassle is that I can no longer figure out how to browse names (to search for alternate spellings). I figured it out once, but it was one of things where I actually had to look on the help page (egads!). I've been on the internet since 1994 and if a site gives me trouble then I know many others will have trouble.

Hi Arlene,
My favorite VA finding aid is the Virginia Heritage Project. I covers the manuscript and archives collections of some major repositories in VA. Sure wish we had had it back when we did that trip to SW VA years ago and got lost on Skull Gap.

You can get to the Virginia Heritage Project from the same Library of VA link you listed above: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/

I need help looking for my great grandfather x 5. His name Johanne Bernhardt Franckh born 16 Dec 1706 in Germany and died 06 May 1782 Berkley Co, Va. His wife is Catharing Lutz and a son George Franck born 12 april 1753. If their is any information you can pass on to me I will truly appreciate. I don't know, but I think the last name spelling may have changed a couple of times, ending at it's final spelling Frank.

Thank You,

Douglas Frank
